November is the month of Thanksgiving, which makes it the perfect month to give thanks. We have many things in our lives to be thankful for, especially if you’re reading this. But we may need a little help finding ways to give thanks in November. Luckily, the help you need is closer than you may think.
The Month of Thanks
There are plenty of ways to give thanks in November and you can utilize each one to make it a month of gratitude. We have so much to be grateful for like family and friends, work and play, food and water, the list goes on and on. But we often take these things for granted because they are so readily available.
For example, we have oxygen to breathe at all times, so we never really think to be grateful to the trees that help provide that oxygen. Do you know where the food in your fridge came from? Sure, it came from the store, but it had a long journey before it got to the shelves at your local grocery store.
These are the things we can be grateful for but don’t really think about regularly, if at all. We need to find ways to give thanks in November to the people that helped that food get to where we could access it, the trees that provide oxygen, and of course, the people in our lives that help make it better.
Ways to Give Thanks in November
There are plenty of options for giving thanks this November that you and your entire family can get behind. For example, to thank the trees that give us oxygen, plant a new tree somewhere, or take care of a tree in your yard. These types of things are simple and while the tree won’t know one way or the other, you will.
We don’t give thanks to things for other people, we give thanks simply to show our gratitude. Thanking the people in your life is even easier. You can easily write a thank you note or simply call them up and take a moment out of your day to explain why you’re grateful to have them in your life. But it doesn’t have to stop with the close people in your life.
Giving Thanks to Strangers
What about the services, small businesses, even charitable organizations in our lives? There are ways to give thanks in November to them as well. Emails seem to be the quickest, though, handwritten letters show even more effort and gratitude.
You can mail a letter of thanks to the small businesses you frequent or the charities that have affected your life in some way. You can even write a letter to as many random soldiers as you’d like that have helped protect your way of life. Try to make it as personal as possible, even though you have never met these people.
Tell them what it is they have done that affected you in some way, why you’re grateful for them. Just imagine how amazing it would be if you got a random letter from a stranger telling you that they appreciate what you do day in and day out. It would be an amazing feeling.
Getting it Done in November
November is the month of thanks; we even have a holiday with “thanks” in the name. That makes this the perfect month to be thankful every single day. In fact, you should make it a goal to send a different letter, email, or phone call each day of the month. You can sit down tonight and make a list, no red suit or had necessary…yet.
Make a list of the people, organizations, stores, whatever, and whomever you want. Then, each day pick and check a name off the list and make it a point to think about how they affected your life. That will help you sit down when you have a minute to compose the perfect thank you message.
Then, send it off. It is that simple to be grateful and we should all be practicing that a little more in our daily lives.
