Winter Coat Collection for Illumination

Winter Coat Collection for Illumination

Those living in Orange County or anywhere in Southern California may think there is no major need for a heavy winter coat or jacket. However, the sun only keeps us warm while it’s out. Once the sun goes down, winter nights can get pretty cold. If you add to those cold nights the lack of a place to live then things get even worse but there is a way to help. The Good In Deed community can lend a helping hand through the Winter Coat collection drive for Illumination.

Homelessness in Southern California

Southern California is often seen as a tourist destination, filled with luxury resorts and beautiful homes. But not everyone living in Southern California sees it that way. Every year, numbers are tallied and over 55,000 people are discovered to be homeless in Southern California. In fact, in Orange County alone, there are over 32,000 children are living in unstable housing and 91 percent of them have faced trauma. Even worse, 30 percent of homeless people have a chronic illness and the average lifespan is 48 years. Illumination aims to help those people, in any way possible.

Illumination Foundation

The Illumination Foundation is working hard to shine a light on an epidemic that is in plain sight every day but often ignored. It’s called Street2Home, and it’s a program that Illumination has that helps homeless people get stability in their life through different partnerships. These partnerships help provide the foundation with housing, medical care, mental health, workforce services and more. The goal is to help those affected find their way back to becoming a contributing member of society. While the goal is to help everyone, the focus is on those most vulnerable like families and children.

Good In Deed Partnership

Through partnerships, the Illumination Foundation is making a difference in Orange County and all of Southern California. One partnership is now with the Good In Deed community. Our goal is to partner with Illumination to provide coats for those who find themselves sleeping under a cold night sky every night. Anyone who can, should donate gently used or new coats, all sizes welcome. These coats will then be handed over to Illumination, who will make sure they find a good place to make a difference. To donate, please email DoGood@GoodInDeed.com to find the nearest donation drop-off location near you.
